TUTORING

My Approach

I specialize in coaching Secondary School students to improve their grades by focusing on the specific skills they need for their exams. In addition to exam preparation, I aim to inspire students and show them the beauty of maths and science

What I can offer as a tutor.

Primary 1-5:  I can teach your child various techniques that will make arithmetic easier for them. I have some great tricks that will take the pain out of learning times tables. For some students, these techniques are enough, but for others, there is the option to go much further.

Primary 6-7:  For children who have fallen behind, I offer one-on-one tuition to help them catch up. For more advanced students, I teach competition maths, algebra, calculus and computer programming.

Secondary 1-3:  I usually start by looking at their High School Maths Website because first and foremost, I want students to stay on top of their school work. After that, I help them with whatever topics they are having the most difficulty with

Secondary 4-6:  I can help your child maximize their grades by helping them with exam technique, calculator skills, tricks for memorizing formulas or just by answering their questions when they get stuck.
I am often employed by parents just after their child has failed a test. My strategy at that point is to go through past papers with them. This is the fastest way to find out what they need the most help with.
I have had some amazing successes in the past for instance one student went from a fail to 100% in just two weeks.

ABOUT ME

I have been tutoring maths and science for the last ten years.

When my children left home. I used my free time to get a physics degree with the Open University. Later, I changed it to a maths degree. This was very useful to me as it enabled me to help my sons with their maths and physics degrees.
That is how I started tutoring. First tutoring my own children and then my children's friends then their freinds. Before the lockdown, I had been volunteering at Young Carers, helping with maths homework and teaching computer programming. Volunteering at Young Carers gave me a lot of useful tutoring experience.
During lockdown, I was doing all of my tutoring online via Skype or Zoom. Now, I do half of my tutoring online and the rest at my home or at the student’s home. I always ask students to email me any homework problems that they are struggling with. Sometimes, I reply by creating Youtube videos to answer the question.
I make sure to reply the same day because I know how worried some students get.
